📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study investigates the relationship between organisational learning practices and innovation capacity in Nigerian pharmaceutical companies, with specific reference to firms in Ogun State, located in the South West geopolitical zone. The pharmaceutical industry requires continuous knowledge acquisition and innovation to develop competitive products, navigate regulatory environments, and address emerging public health needs. This research employs a survey research design with data collected from 100 R&D managers, quality assurance directors, and knowledge management officers through structured questionnaires. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression. The study evaluates organisational learning dimensions including knowledge acquisition systems, learning transfer mechanisms, double-loop learning culture, inter-firm knowledge collaboration, and learning outcome measurement. Findings reveal that learning transfer mechanisms and double-loop learning culture are the most significant predictors of innovation capacity, measured through new product launch frequency, process improvement rate, and regulatory submission quality. Inter-firm knowledge collaboration showed positive but indirect innovation effects, largely through access to external research networks. The study also identifies under-investment in R&D learning infrastructure as a systemic constraint on pharmaceutical innovation in Nigeria. Recommendations include developing structured knowledge transfer platforms, formalising cross-industry learning partnerships, and allocating dedicated budgets for organisational learning initiatives.
