Project Documentation Practices and Organizational Learning in Construction Firms in Kaduna State, North West Nigeria

Project documentation is a critical enabler of organizational learning, knowledge transfer, and project replication quality, yet its systematic practice in Nigerian construction firms remains understudied. This study examines project documentation practices and their relationship to organizational learning in construction firms in Kaduna State, North West Nigeria. A descriptive survey will recruit 160 project managers, site engineers, and document controllers from 20 registered construction firms in Kaduna, Zaria, and Kafanchan. A structured questionnaire will assess documentation completeness, accessibility, knowledge transfer processes, and lessons-learned utilization. The Organizational Learning Scale (OLS) will measure learning outcomes. Pearson correlation and regression analysis will examine documentation practice-learning relationships. Existing evidence from Nigerian construction organizations highlights poor knowledge management practices, with lessons from failed projects rarely captured or transferred to future teams. Findings will support the development of documentation management systems and knowledge management cultures within construction firms in Kaduna State.
