📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study examines the mechanisms of supervision and quality assurance in integrated Islamic schools in Gombe State, North East Nigeria. Integrated Islamic schools, which combine Quranic and secular education, are subject to dual oversight from both the state education ministry and Islamic education authorities, creating potentially complex and occasionally contradictory quality assurance frameworks. The study employs a descriptive survey design using questionnaires and interview guides administered to 50 school heads, 30 supervision officers, and 20 education quality assurance officials across Gombe, Yamaltu-Deba, and Billiri local government areas. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Findings reveal that supervision visits are infrequent, quality assurance standards are not consistently applied across Islamic and secular subject areas, and most school heads have received no formal training in internal quality management. Schools affiliated with larger Islamic education networks showed better quality outcomes than independent institutions. The study recommends the development of a unified quality assurance framework for integrated Islamic schools, training of school heads in institutional quality management, and the harmonisation of supervisory activities between state and Islamic education oversight bodies. Keywords: quality assurance, supervision, integrated Islamic schools, Gombe State, educational management.
