📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study examines the impact of supply chain disruptions on retail inventory management among fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) firms in Lagos State, South West Nigeria. The increasing frequency of disruptions caused by fuel scarcity, port congestion at Apapa, and foreign exchange volatility has exposed significant vulnerabilities in how retailers plan and manage stock levels. Drawing on recent literature published between 2020 and 2024, this research adopts a descriptive survey design with structured questionnaires administered to 120 store managers and supply chain officers across 15 FMCG retail outlets in Lagos. Data collected will be analysed using frequency tables, mean scores, and simple regression. The study aims to identify the primary disruption drivers, assess their consequences on stock availability and customer satisfaction, and evaluate current mitigation strategies employed by the firms. Preliminary observations suggest that most firms rely on reactive rather than proactive inventory planning, leaving them exposed during prolonged disruptions. Findings are expected to provide practical recommendations for building more resilient inventory buffers and supplier diversification frameworks suitable for the Nigerian FMCG retail environment. The study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on supply chain resilience in developing economies. Keywords: supply chain disruptions, inventory management, FMCG, Lagos, resilience.
