Warri Metropolis in Delta State, a key industrial and commercial centre in Nigeria's South South geopolitical zone, experiences escalating urban flood events attributable to inadequate drainage infrastructure, low-lying terrain, and intensifying rainfall driven by climate variability. This study investigates urban flooding in Warri Metropolis with a focus on the spatial distribution of flood-prone zones, drainage infrastructure adequacy, and the socioeconomic burden on affected communities. Satellite-derived flood extent mapping using Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar imagery from 14 historical flood events between 2018 and 2023 was combined with LiDAR-derived digital terrain analysis to characterise flood pathways and inundation depths. Field assessment of 86 primary and secondary drainage channels in the metropolis recorded structural condition, blockage prevalence, and hydraulic capacity using modified Manning's equation estimates. Survey data from 400 flood-affected households captured damage costs, coping strategies, and satisfaction with government response. Results reveal that approximately 41 percent of Warri Metropolis is classified as frequently inundated, with Okumagba Layout, Okere, and Pessu emerging as the most severely affected districts. Drainage blockage from solid waste accumulation is identified as the single largest contributing factor to flood depth escalation in residential areas. Household flood damage costs average 180,000 naira per event, representing a significant shock for low-income households. Recommendations include comprehensive drainage masterplan development, solid waste management reform, and community-level flood preparedness education.
