📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
Ogun State's urbanizing corridors, particularly along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Sagamu-Benin Road, are experiencing significant increases in transport demand driven by industrial growth, residential relocation from Lagos, and expanding commercial activity. This study examines urban transport planning and mobility management approaches in Ogun State, with particular focus on the Sagamu, Abeokuta, and Ota urban centers. A professional management research design was employed, reviewing Ogun State transport sector plans, ministry of works road management documents, and inter-city transport regulatory frameworks. Fourteen transport planning practitioners and mobility management officers from the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation, Urban Development Board, and Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers were interviewed. Traffic volume data and transport service coverage assessments complemented the institutional analysis. Findings are expected to reveal the absence of an integrated urban transport management plan for any of the studied centers, regulatory gaps in commercial transport operations, inadequate pedestrian and non-motorized transport infrastructure, and limited inter-agency coordination on transport-land use integration. The study examines the implications of industrial estate development on transport demand in Ogun's industrial zones and the planning responses required. Recommendations address development of an Ogun State Urban Transport Master Plan, establishment of a transport coordination unit with cross-ministry membership, introduction of bus rapid transit feasibility studies for the Ota-Lagos corridor, and mandatory transport impact assessments for major industrial and residential developments. Keywords: Urban transport, Mobility management, Ogun State, Transport planning, Industrial corridors.
