📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study investigates the relationship between channel partner management practices and market coverage effectiveness among consumer goods companies in Nigeria, with evidence from firms operating in Kogi and Kwara States, North Central Nigeria. Effective market coverage, the ability to ensure product availability across geographic areas and retail formats, is a fundamental marketing management objective in consumer goods businesses. Channel partner management, encompassing distributor selection, relationship development, performance monitoring, and conflict resolution, directly determines coverage outcomes. The research adopts a descriptive survey design with 90 national sales and distribution managers and 150 channel partners (distributors and sub-distributors) participating through structured questionnaires. Multiple regression analysis evaluates the contributions of key channel management dimensions to market coverage metrics including numeric distribution, weighted distribution, and outlet compliance rates. The study also examines how geographic infrastructure quality moderates management-coverage relationships. Preliminary findings indicate that distributor incentive alignment and structured performance monitoring systems are the strongest management predictors of coverage effectiveness, while poor road access is the dominant geographic moderator. Recommendations address national sales directors, distribution strategy teams, and channel partners in the Nigerian consumer goods sector on designing management frameworks that achieve superior market coverage despite infrastructure constraints. Keywords: channel partner management, market coverage, consumer goods, distribution, North Central Nigeria
