Design of an Academic Result Management System for Niger State College of Education

Result management in Nigerian colleges of education is often delayed, error-prone, and susceptible to malpractice due to manual processing systems. This project designs an academic result management system for Niger State College of Education (NSCOE), Minna, North Central Nigeria. The system is developed using PHP and MySQL with a web-based interface accessible to lecturers, examination officers, and students. The waterfall development lifecycle is adopted, providing sequential deliverables suited to the institution's structured academic calendar. Features include score entry by lecturers, automatic grade computation, cumulative grade point average (CGPA) calculation, result approval workflows, transcript generation, and a student self-service result portal. A semester-long pilot involved 45 lecturers and 500 students across the School of Education and School of Sciences. Findings show a 91 percent reduction in result processing time and a significant decrease in result alteration complaints compared to the preceding manual system. The study recommends that the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) mandate standardised result management software across all affiliated institutions. Data security measures including encrypted database connections and role-based access controls were validated during testing, with no unauthorised access incidents recorded. This research strengthens academic integrity infrastructure at the teacher training level in North Central Nigeria.
