Innovation Strategy and Organizational Growth Among Technology Startups in Lagos

📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW

This research investigates the relationship between innovation strategy and organizational growth among technology startups in Lagos, Nigeria. Lagos, as the commercial capital of Nigeria's South West zone, hosts the largest concentration of technology entrepreneurs and innovation ecosystems on the continent. The study employs a descriptive research design, targeting founders and co-founders of registered tech startups at the Lagos innovation hubs including Co-Creation Hub and Techpoint Hub. A sample of 80 respondents was drawn using convenience sampling, and data were collected through semi-structured questionnaires. Quantitative data were analyzed using regression analysis. Findings indicate that product innovation strategies, particularly those involving rapid iteration and user-centered design, are the strongest predictors of startup revenue growth and market traction. The study also identifies that startups with formal innovation management processes are more likely to attract venture capital funding within their first three years of operation. Regulatory uncertainty and infrastructure deficits are identified as constraints that moderate the positive effects of innovation strategy. The research concludes that Lagos-based tech startups must institutionalize innovation as a deliberate organizational strategy rather than an ad hoc activity. Recommendations include mentorship programs, regulatory sandboxes, and seed-stage innovation grants from government agencies. Keywords: innovation strategy, organizational growth, technology startups, Lagos, entrepreneurship.
