📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study presents a multidimensional analysis of records management maturity and its relationship to regulatory compliance in Nigerian commercial banks. Bank records management maturity, assessed across dimensions including policy, process, technology, and staff competency, has direct implications for compliance with CBN directives, FIRS taxation records requirements, and anti-money laundering documentation obligations. The research employs a mixed-methods design combining quantitative survey and qualitative case analysis. The quantitative phase targets records managers and compliance officers in twenty-five CBN-licensed commercial banks using a validated Records Management Maturity Model (RMMM) instrument, with data analysed using Pearson correlation and regression analysis. The qualitative phase conducts in-depth interviews in three purposively selected banks for case elaboration. The Records Maturity Model and the Compliance Management Framework provide the theoretical anchors, supported by literature from 2020 to 2024 on banking records management in Nigeria. The study fills a documented gap in the literature by operationalising and empirically testing a contextualised banking sector RMMM. Recommendations target the Central Bank of Nigeria's banking supervision directorate and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit. Keywords: records management maturity, regulatory compliance, commercial banks, Nigeria, banking supervision
