Supply Chain Performance Measurement Using the SCOR Model in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods Sector in Lagos

📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW

Supply chain performance management in Nigeria's fast-moving consumer goods industry has evolved in response to growing competitive pressures, rising logistics costs, and increasing consumer expectations. This study applies the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model to measure and benchmark supply chain performance across five leading FMCG firms operating in Lagos State, South West Nigeria. The SCOR framework's five process categories, namely plan, source, make, deliver, and return, are operationalized through a structured performance measurement instrument administered to supply chain managers. Key performance indicators covering reliability, responsiveness, agility, costs, and asset management efficiency are collected and benchmarked against industry standards. Qualitative interviews complement the quantitative survey to contextualize performance gaps. Findings indicate that all five firms perform significantly below SCOR benchmark levels on delivery reliability and return process efficiency, while demonstrating relatively stronger performance on sourcing responsiveness. Root cause analysis identifies demand forecasting inaccuracy and supplier relationship management as the two most critical performance drivers. The study develops a prioritized improvement roadmap for each firm based on performance gap analysis, with recommendations tailored to firm size and supply chain complexity. PGD-level findings are presented as a professional practice guide for supply chain managers seeking structured performance improvement programmes. This research contributes a contextually adapted SCOR application framework for the Nigerian consumer goods supply chain environment.
