Technology Integration in School Administration and Efficiency of Secondary Schools in Edo State

This study examines the impact of technology integration in school administration on the operational efficiency of public secondary schools in Edo State, South South Nigeria. Administrative functions in secondary schools, including attendance tracking, timetabling, examination management, and financial reporting, are increasingly being supported by digital systems with the aim of improving accuracy, speed, and accountability. In Edo State, the pace and outcomes of technology adoption in school administration have not been systematically assessed. The study employs a descriptive survey design and samples 160 school administrators and senior teachers from 25 secondary schools across Edo Central, North, and South senatorial zones. A validated questionnaire and structured observation schedule are used for data collection, and analysis employs mean scores and regression analysis. The study draws on the Technology-Organisation-Environment Framework. Results indicate that schools where administrative technology has been meaningfully integrated demonstrate higher levels of operational efficiency, fewer administrative errors, and faster processing of student records and reports. The most common barriers to effective adoption include poor internet infrastructure, inadequate device provision, and lack of staff training in school management software. The study recommends a state-level digitalisation strategy for school administration in Edo State, including targeted training for school heads and investment in reliable broadband connectivity.
