📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This research examines the influence of the physical and psychological office environment on job satisfaction among administrative secretaries in polytechnics in Niger State, located in Nigeria's North Central geopolitical zone. The office environment encompasses factors such as lighting, noise levels, ergonomic furniture, workplace safety, and interpersonal climate, all of which have been linked to employee wellbeing and satisfaction in recent organisational studies. The study adopts a survey research design, targeting administrative secretaries and executive assistants in three Niger State polytechnics. Structured questionnaires and focus group discussions are used as data collection instruments. The Herzberg Two-Factor Theory and the Person-Environment Fit Model provide the theoretical grounding, supported by literature from 2020 to 2024. The study measures satisfaction across intrinsic and extrinsic dimensions, relating them to identified environmental variables. Specific attention is given to infrastructure conditions prevalent in Nigerian polytechnic settings, including power supply irregularity and inadequate office furnishing. Findings are expected to reveal a significant positive relationship between a conducive office environment and job satisfaction. Recommendations are directed at polytechnic management and the Niger State Ministry of Education. Keywords: office environment, job satisfaction, administrative secretaries, polytechnics, Niger State
