📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study conducts a training needs assessment for office professionals in selected federal government parastatals in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. As Nigeria's public administration continues to evolve in response to digital transformation imperatives, identifying competency gaps and aligning them with targeted training interventions has become essential for effective office management. Using a descriptive survey design, the study targets executive officers, administrative assistants, and heads of administration in eight federal parastatals. Structured questionnaires, validated skill assessment matrices, and interviews with human resource managers serve as data collection instruments. The study draws on the Training Needs Analysis (TNA) framework and recent literature on capacity development in Nigerian public institutions, particularly studies published between 2020 and 2024. Key training gaps explored include digital literacy, records management, business communication, and office technology proficiency. The study also evaluates the current training programme structures within selected parastatals and their perceived adequacy. Findings are expected to provide a practical skills gap profile that can inform training programme design and budgetary allocations. Recommendations are aimed at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. Keywords: training needs assessment, office professionals, federal parastatals, capacity building, Abuja
