Appraisal of Records Security Measures in Taraba State Judiciary Administrative Offices

This study appraises the adequacy of records security measures in the administrative offices of the Taraba State Judiciary, located in Nigeria's North East geopolitical zone. Judicial records are among the most sensitive categories of government documentation, as their integrity directly affects justice delivery and public trust in the legal system. The research adopts a case study design, targeting court registrars, administrative officers, and records clerks in three judicial divisions within Taraba State. Data collection instruments include structured questionnaires, physical security observation guides, and documentary analysis checklists. The study draws on the Information Security Management Framework and relevant records management standards, with literature from 2020 to 2024 informing the contextual analysis. Specific security dimensions examined include physical access controls, document handling procedures, digital backup systems, and staff awareness of confidentiality obligations. The study also investigates incidents of records tampering or loss and institutional responses. Recommendations are directed at the Taraba State Chief Judge's office and the National Judicial Council. This research contributes to the discourse on judicial administration and records governance in Nigeria.
