Work-Life Balance and Employee Wellbeing Among Administrative Staff in Tertiary Hospitals in Kwara State

📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW

This study investigates work-life balance and its relationship to employee wellbeing among administrative staff in tertiary hospitals in Kwara State, in Nigeria's North Central geopolitical zone. Hospital administrative environments impose demanding schedules, irregular working hours, and emotional pressure on non-clinical staff, with significant implications for personal wellbeing and sustained job performance. Using a survey research design, the study targets medical records officers, administrative managers, ward secretaries, and human resource staff in two Kwara State tertiary hospitals. Structured questionnaires incorporating the Work-Life Balance Scale and the General Health Questionnaire are administered to 110 respondents. The study draws theoretical grounding from the Spillover Theory and the Border Theory of Work-Life Balance, with supporting literature from 2021 to 2024. Key variables examined include working hours, family demand interference, access to welfare facilities, and management responsiveness to wellbeing concerns. Recommendations are directed at the hospital management boards and the Kwara State Ministry of Health. Keywords: work-life balance, employee wellbeing, administrative staff, tertiary hospitals, Kwara State
