Effect of Meeting Management Practices on Organisational Productivity in Delta State Oil Companies

This study investigates the effect of meeting management practices on organisational productivity in oil companies operating in Delta State, within Nigeria's South South geopolitical zone. Meetings are a central feature of organisational communication and decision-making, yet poorly managed meetings consume significant staff time and financial resources without generating commensurate value. Using a descriptive survey design, the study targets administrative managers, executive assistants, and departmental heads in eight oil service companies in Warri and Effurun. Structured questionnaires and meeting productivity logs are the primary data collection instruments. The study is anchored theoretically on the Organisational Efficiency Theory and the Time Management Framework, with reference to literature published between 2020 and 2024. Variables examined include meeting frequency, preparation quality, agenda adherence, decision documentation, and follow-up action tracking. The study also assesses the growing role of virtual meeting platforms and their effect on meeting productivity in the post-pandemic Delta State corporate environment. Recommendations are directed at oil company management boards and professional administrative associations.
