Office Information Needs and Resource Utilisation Among Secondary School Administrative Staff in Nasarawa State

This research investigates the office information needs and resource utilisation patterns of administrative staff in secondary schools in Nasarawa State, within Nigeria's North Central geopolitical zone. Administrative efficiency in secondary school settings depends on the adequacy of information resources available to clerks, bursars, and vice principals in charge of administration. Using a descriptive survey design, the study targets administrative officers in twenty public secondary schools across three local government areas in Nasarawa State. Structured questionnaires and information resource availability checklists serve as data collection instruments. The Information Needs Theory and the Uses and Gratifications Model provide the conceptual framework, with supporting literature from 2020 to 2024 on educational administration in Nigeria. Dimensions examined include the types of information resources used (print and digital), frequency of use, perceived adequacy, and barriers to access including internet connectivity and library resource limitations. The study also identifies differences in resource utilisation between rural and urban school settings. Recommendations are directed at the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission.
