Integrated Marketing Communications Effectiveness in Nigerian Telecommunications: A Management-Level Analysis

📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW

This study examines the effectiveness of integrated marketing communications (IMC) strategies among Nigerian telecommunications companies from a management-level perspective, focusing on firms operating primarily in Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt representing the North Central, North West, and South South geopolitical zones respectively. IMC, the coordination of advertising, public relations, personal selling, sales promotion, and digital marketing into a coherent communication strategy, is increasingly adopted by telecoms firms seeking to deliver consistent brand messages across fragmented media channels. The research employs a descriptive mixed-method design, with structured questionnaires completed by 130 marketing directors, brand managers, and campaign planners, supplemented by documentary review of campaign materials. Quantitative data are analysed using descriptive statistics and regression, while campaign document review employs content analysis. The study evaluates IMC coordination quality, message consistency, budget allocation, and resulting brand communication outcomes. Preliminary findings indicate that firms achieving high levels of IMC coordination report significantly better brand message recall and more favourable consumer attitude scores than those relying on isolated campaign channels. Budget allocation imbalances, particularly over-investment in ATL media at the expense of digital channels, are identified as a common IMC weakness. Recommendations are directed at telecom CMOs, marketing strategy teams, and advertising agencies supporting the sector on improving IMC planning and execution.
