Knowledge Management Practices and Institutional Performance in Benue State University Library

This study examines knowledge management practices and their contribution to institutional performance in Benue State University Library, Makurdi, within Nigeria's North Central geopolitical zone. University libraries serve as primary knowledge repositories and facilitation centres for academic research, making their knowledge management effectiveness a critical determinant of institutional scholarly output. Using a descriptive survey design, the study targets library staff including cataloguers, reference librarians, and information systems officers, as well as a random sample of faculty users. Structured questionnaires and library performance audit tools serve as data collection instruments. The study is theoretically grounded in Nonaka's SECI Model of Knowledge Creation and the Balanced Scorecard for library performance, with supporting literature from 2020 to 2024. Knowledge management dimensions investigated include knowledge capture from external sources, internal knowledge sharing, tacit knowledge documentation, and the use of digital knowledge management platforms. Institutional performance is measured through user satisfaction scores, collection development quality, and research support outcomes.
