Project Management Practices and Climate Resilience in Community Infrastructure Projects in Flood-Prone Areas of Kogi State, North Central Nigeria

Climate-resilient project management is an emerging imperative for infrastructure delivery in flood-prone communities, yet its integration into community project practices in North Central Nigeria remains unstudied. This study examines project management practices and climate resilience integration in community infrastructure projects in flood-prone areas of Kogi State. A mixed-methods design will survey 240 community project managers, local government engineers, NEMA officers, and community leaders from 15 infrastructure projects in Lokoja, Idah, and Bassa flood zones. Climate resilience integration will be assessed across project design, material selection, risk management, and post-completion maintenance planning. Project delivery outcomes will be correlated with resilience scores using multiple regression. Qualitative case studies of three contrasting projects will provide depth. Evidence from Kogi State's recurrent flood-affected areas highlights repeated investment losses from inadequate climate-sensitive design in community infrastructure. This study generates evidence supporting climate-responsive project management guidelines for local government authorities in flood-prone North Central Nigeria.
