Utilisation of Library Information Resources by Office and Information Management Students in Kogi State University

This study examines the extent and patterns of library information resource utilisation among Office and Information Management students at Kogi State University, Anyigba, located in Nigeria's North Central geopolitical zone. Academic library resources are essential to the research output and intellectual development of university students, yet underutilisation remains a perennial challenge in many Nigerian higher education institutions due to infrastructure limitations and digital literacy gaps. Using a descriptive survey design, the study targets 200-level to 400-level Office and Information Management students. Data are collected through structured questionnaires and library usage records provided by the university librarian. The Information Use Framework and the Theory of Planned Behaviour provide the theoretical foundation, with supporting literature from 2020 to 2024. The study investigates frequency of library visits, types of resources consulted (print versus electronic), reasons for non-use, and the correlation between resource utilisation and academic performance. Challenges such as limited e-resource subscriptions, poor internet connectivity, and library opening hours are also examined. Recommendations are directed at Kogi State University library management and the National Universities Commission.
