📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
The choice between agile and waterfall project management methodologies significantly affects IT transformation project outcomes, and the comparative performance of these methodologies in Nigerian banking contexts warrants empirical investigation. This study evaluates agile versus waterfall methodology performance in banking IT transformation projects in Lagos State, South West Nigeria. A cross-sectional comparative design will recruit 150 project managers, IT leads, and business analysts from commercial banks that have recently completed IT projects under agile, waterfall, or hybrid approaches. Project performance will be measured across delivery speed, scope achievement, defect rates, and stakeholder satisfaction. Independent t-tests and ANOVA will compare outcomes across methodology categories, controlling for project size and complexity. The study will also assess organizational readiness factors that moderate methodology choice effectiveness. Evidence from global banking IT projects favors agile for complex, evolving requirements, but Nigerian banking contexts involve unique regulatory and legacy infrastructure constraints that may alter this relationship. Findings will guide Lagos-based bank PMOs in methodology selection. Keywords: agile, waterfall, IT transformation, banking sector, Lagos State
