📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
Continuous training and development of project managers is critical to sustaining high performance in complex, dynamic project environments. This study examines the impact of training and development interventions on project manager performance in federal government agencies in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory. A cross-sectional survey will recruit 150 project managers and their supervisors from six federal agencies with active project portfolios, covering infrastructure, education, health, and ICT. Training and development inputs will be assessed using a structured questionnaire covering formal PM certification, in-service training hours, mentoring access, and simulation-based learning. Project manager performance will be rated using a 360-degree feedback tool assessing technical competence, leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving. Multiple regression will identify training modalities most strongly associated with performance improvement. Nigerian federal agency evidence highlights a significant gap between project management training investment and performance outcomes, often attributable to training programs misaligned with on-the-job realities. Findings will guide capacity development policies for the Office of the Head of the Civil Service and federal training institutions. Keywords: training and development, project manager performance, federal agencies, Abuja, capacity development
